Stomach Flu

These past 2 days have been a very tiring day for me and princess Phoebe. Sunday went to watch Singapore Air Show with FIL, hubby, princess and one of hubby's friend. The place was super packed and the weather was a killer! All of us who attended the show, was somehow sun-burnt!

Evening, went to fetch MIL frm her trip to Msia and went for makan. Bought chawamusi for princess and also let her took a bit of our rice (went to yoshunuya fast food). When we were abt to finish our dinner, my dear princess vomited out her food! Though it was nothing serious. The whole afternoon, notice that she has been feeling uncomfortable. She always tried to vomit, but just got the sound, and nothing came out. Thought her throat was itchy or not comfortable, therefore after she vomited, thought she would feel better. But the worst has yet to come ...

When we reached home, princess had diarrhea. I also thought that was normal. But the scary part happened ard 3.30am. I fed her milk (as usual, she still needs her night feed) and after drinking a bit (notice that her appetite had not been good for the whole day) she started to vomit out her milk. I gave her some water to drink, also to rinse away the vomit in her mouth, but she also started to throw out the water. Hubby and I then decided that something is not right and brought her to KK hospital A&E.

While waiting for our turn, princess vomited once and had diarrhea again. Poor girl! Think she was reli feeling very uncomfortable as she was crying whenever she vomited or diarrhea.

After a long wait (actually was a short wait, but it seems eternal to me!), its finally our turn. Doc told us princess was having a low-grade fever (huh???) and also most probably suffered from stomach flu. That was why whatever she took, she will throw them out. Doc then inserted 2 pills thru princess anus. The medi was to bring down her fever and stop her vomiting. As princess is still young, there is no medication for her to take to stop her diarrhea. Therefore doc informed us that princess might still have diarrhea symptoms for the next 2 days.

I nearly cried out when the nurse tried to insert the pills inside princess anus. She was crying so badly and yet, there is nothing i can do to help her. I feel so helpless and useless. But i told myself i cannot cry in-front of her, because I've got to be strong, to protect and comfort her. I've got to let princess know that it is fine and everything is gona be alright.

After the insertion, we had to wait for 1 hr, before princess can take the medi. The nurse asked us which flavor princess like. My hubby and I were like "What?? Still can choose flavor one har??" The nurse continued to tell us that they have grape, orange, strawberry and cherry flavor. In the end, we choose the orange flavor because it was the most popular flavor among the kids (was told by the nurse).

Princess was supposed to take the medi from 6am onwards, each dose 20ml and to take another dose after 15 mins. In total has to take 4 dosage. While waiting, princess fell asleep and I did not bear to wake her up, as she practically did not sleep the whole night. But hubby said we had to wake her up as the doc was waiting for us to review her condition. Doc told us that if even after taking the medi and princess continue to vomit, got to admit her. I prayed very very hard that this is only a mild eposide for princess and everything will be over soon. Luckily and thank GOD, she did not throw out the medi, actually we replaced it with Ribena (as advise by the nurse), cos princess refuse to take the medi.

By the time we reached home, it was already 8 am plus.

Below are the medi that princess had to take ...

This is just in case her fever reached above 39 degree, then had to give her blufen. Luckily and thank god, we did not even need to open this bottle.

This is for her fever. Took once cause her fever was higher than 38 degree. Luckily and thank god, only need to take once.

This is the medi that the nurse asked which flavor princess like. This is to be taken after her diarrhea. It came in a box which had all the different flavor. Can be taken as ice pop as well. unfortunately, princess still refuse to take this medi, in the end, we still have to replace this with Ribena.

This is something like yakult. It kills the bad bacteria in princess stomach and help to produce good bacteria. Princess hates this medi the most. Everytime had to force her to take this medi and ends up she cried and I cried with her ... Poor princess ... :'(

And the last medi. This medi is to stabilize princess stomach. So that her stomach will not churn so much.

Monday and Tuesday, I did not go work, so that I can take care of princess and also to monitor her suitation. She had to reduce her milk intake (from 150ml to 120ml) and also to breakdown her milk intake. Every 15 mins, take 20ml of milk. Therefore the past 2 days, I had been busying with washing the bottle, preparing milk and making princess take the medi.

Because of the stomach flu, princess did not had much appetite and she felt weak. She was restless and not as active as before. And because of the stomach flu, she was much more crankier. Now, we will on Hi-5 for her to watch (her favorite show), hopefully to make her feel better. I also tried to sing along with the show (that is if I am not tired).

Tried to take a few pics of princess. From the pics, you can see how weak princess was.

Think she also slim down abit ... Everyone in the family was so heart-pain to see princess in this state. From Gong Gong to Ah Ma, from Ah Peh to Ah Kim, and most of all from Hubby and me. Even our dog also treat princess exceptionally well these few days!

Although to some, this might seem to be a small sickness. But to tell the truth, no matter what kind of sickness our child has suffered, it will always be a big issue to parent. We will worried no matter what and pray that everything will be over soon. Cause it is so heart wrenching to see our prince or princess to go through the discomfort and also to see an active child to suddenly become so restless. Now I understand how my parent felt when I was sick when I was younger. The worried and aniexty they had to go through. Now as a parent myself, I learn to appreciate them more than ever and also know that they are not nagging at us (which I always thought that they are super naggy), but they are worried and concern about us.
